Effective eLearning with value for money

My name is Kevin Parker, the Managing Director of Global TechWorld, and I have spent 23 years managing training and education in large organisations. 10 years I ago I asked for quotes to produce an eLearning induction package for my organisation which was to last 45 min. It was to include a few short videos, as well as graphics and text and a short quiz at the end. Our best quote was £30,000. Needless to say I was not able to get the funds so instead I attended a 2 week course in authorware during which I produced a package myself which met the requirements. The course cost £500 and we retained the copyright to update the course ourselves.

Although eLearning is slowly coming down in price, most companies still expect to charge around £15,000 for each hours worth of eLearning. Of course the quality also needs to be considered: Basic text and graphics will be less whereas complex simulation type eLearning will be more.

The good news is that there are now easy to learn tools which will enable anyone who can use powerpoint to also create eLearning both quickly and effectively. Many of these tools are either free or excellent value for money compared with the cost of buying eLearning off the shelf.
